There’s nothing more fulfilling than successfully sprucing up your family home, especially if you haven’t redecorated the space or updated any piece of furniture in a decade or more. Also, redecorating or renovating your family becomes crucial if the space no longer meets your and your family’s needs, tastes, and preferences. If you can relate to this, it’s high time to spruce up your family home.

Fortunately, plenty of decor ideas will update the overall appeal of your family home. Whether you want to overhaul the entire design of the space or just make a few aesthetic changes, you won’t find any shortage of inspiration due to the multitude of sources available online. As a start, consider these ways to spruce up your family home from the get-go:

Renovate your kitchen

The kitchen is considered the heart of any family home regardless of size. Not only can you enjoy a delicious meal in this room, but it’s also a perfect place to catch up with family members. Hence, it’s vital that the kitchen is always functional and inviting to serve its purpose.

To help you out, here are some ideas for kitchen renovations

Add patterns and color: One way to use color and patterns to your advantage is to paint a wall with a bright color. Doing so will give your entire kitchen a modern look. However, if painting the wall isn’t an option, you can place a printed shade over your kitchen windows or a rug on the floor.

Update your lighting: Dark colors will naturally make a room smaller. Hence, be mindful of the colors of kitchen cabinets and walls. However, if you like dark-colored kitchen fixtures, consider updating your lighting. Despite the color combination of the kitchen, the right lighting will do the job of making the kitchen appear larger.

Add shelves: If your kitchen lacks storage space, consider adding extra shelves between the cabinets or above the kitchen sink. In addition to storing your kitchen equipment, you can also use the shelves to display your collection, like China, or store dishes.

Since renovating a kitchen can be difficult to do-it-yourself (DIY), especially if you don’t have the tools and experience, it’s best to call a professional to handle the task.

Rearrange your living room

Once you’re satisfied with your kitchen’s look, the next room you should focus on is the living room. Thankfully, you don’t need to spend much money to spruce up your living room. In fact, with the right tips, a little rearranging will suffice in transforming your living room.

If you want optimal television viewing, find a position for both side chairs and the sofa directly pointing to the television. On the other hand, if you want to discourage screen time, make the coffee table the focal point of the room. Lastly, if you want your living room to be cozy, consider adding some blankets and throw pillows; soft textiles will generally provide comfort to any room.

Layer your lighting

Ideally, every room should have ambient, task, and accent lighting. Ambient lighting provides illumination and is typically sourced from ceiling fixtures. On the other hand, task lighting is often found over a reading nook or kitchen island. Lastly, accent lighting is used to highlight any decoration, like artwork.

If you and other family members love spending time in the living room, consider having at least three watts of lighting per square foot. Additionally, place a canister uplight or a torchiere in the corner to make any room appear bigger.

Add fresh flowers

You shouldn’t underestimate the importance of adding flowers to a room. Despite being small and simple, flowers have plenty of benefits that allow you to create a wonderful space in your family home.

For one, they can add a natural element to a space, making the entire room refreshing and comforting. Also, depending on the type of flower, they can provide a layer of color that can help brighten a space; you can also match the flower with the room’s existing color to tie the room together.

Final words

Remember that sprucing up rooms in your family home has a whole range of benefits. Moreover, this can be a good thing as making subtle or ingenious changes is a way for you to express your creativity. Not to mention that both your guests and family will love the output. Just remember, not every room requires a makeover. You can always apply simple and inexpensive upgrades if you want to spruce up a particular room.
