Spiders are one of these critters that can be not only intimidating, but they can also instill fear in most of us. While all spiders control insects and are quite useful, some like the Black Widow and Brown Recluse spiders are very dangerous. The Sydney Funnel Web Spider is topping the list, and quite a few deaths from it’s bites have occurred. Nobody wants any creepy crawlies invading their personal space, and spiders are definitely one of these pests. Here are a few tips to help you control these unwanted eight-legged intruders. But, it must be noted, that if you suspect there is a Black Widow, Brown Recluse, or any other highly venomous spider involved, your local spider control expert should be called immediately.
1.Spray with a Peppermint-Vinegar Mix
Spiders are often repelled by intense smells. Luckily, many household fragrances we already use are sufficient enough. Peppermint Oil and Vinegar seems to be particularly effective at keeping spiders at bay. Mix one portion of peppermint oil into a spray bottle, with equal parts water and vinegar to help dilute the solution, and sprinkle it around your house and the areas that you keep finding spiders in.
2.Regular Cleaning
Spiders like dark, undisturbed and cluttered spaces, areas that are not often frequented by people. This shouldn’t come as a surprise but routine cleaning will help to control them. One of the most efficient methods for both discouraging and to ensure spiders don’t come back is to make sure your home is well kept. Simply by cleaning and tidying regularly, spiders will find it difficult to set in. Periodical vacuuming is the most effective way to get rid of all spiders quickly. While the vacuum suction is going to kill spiders fast, regular and thorough housekeeping will go a long way in making sure that spiders don’t go on their merry way.
3.Keep the Outside of Your Home Tidy
The best way to control a spider problem is to make sure you don’t have one in the first place. One great way to do this is to remove the clutter around the exterior of your home that spiders love to hide in. This includes piles of leaves, grass clippings, overgrown vegetation, compost piles, wood piles, etc. Additionally, look for any cracks or unsealed crevices around your doors and windows. Addressing these problem areas will help a great deal in preventing spiders from entering your home.
4.Take it Back Outside
If you don’t have a fear of spiders and don’t mind being a bit more hands on, the most humane way to deal with a spider is simply taking it back outside and releasing. Be careful to look at the markings on the spider to make sure you aren’t getting ready to handle a highly poisonous spider. Place a small container over the spider and carefully slide a piece of paper underneath it. Covering the opening of the container with your hand and the paper, quickly turn the container over so the spider drops to the bottom. Walk at least 10 feet from your house and release it back into the wild.
5.Call the Professionals
