Get the measurement right
The first thing you need to see is that you have got all the right ingredients. Yes, the rice cooker has got almost everything covered for you, but you still need spices to add the flavor. If you just want to boil your rice, then just water and a bowl of rice will be enough for you. You can also add a pinch of salt as well (according to your preferences).
The next important thing is to get the measurement right, a little bit of mistake and you might mess up. If you have one of those rice cookers, which have a removable bowl, it might come in handy. If not, there must be measuring equipment available with the rice maker. Remember that if you want to make 3 cups of rice, you need to measure only one cup, and it will be enough.
Rinse the rice
Always remember to rinse your rice before you start cooking them. Most of the time, they have preservatives on, which can be hazardous to health. It is better to take the precautionary measure. Just pour your rice into a bowl and rinse it thoroughly. It is recommended to gently run hands through the bowl so that you can get the bottom ones too. Remember not to rub the rice too harshly, otherwise, they might start breaking off. Change the water three or four times, until the color of water does not change, it means that you have washed off all kinds of pesticides, herbicides, or contaminants.
The amount of water you will be needed depends on the type of rice you want to make. Normally, it is recommended by the production companies to use cold water for cooking. Hot water will make rice too soft, even before you have started cooking them, and you will not get the desired results. If you look at the marks indicated inside the cooker, you will get the right idea. For example, consider a small rice cooker, they have the capacity to cook almost 20 cups of rice at once. You will be needing 1 3/4 cups of water per 1 cup of rice for getting long grains, for White, medium grain, 1 1/2 cups of water per 1 cup of rice will be enough and so on.
