With the yummy dishes, there comes the annoying element attached. Clogging. If you are also fed up of constantly cleaning up the mess to avoid the surprise visit of the “uninvited guest,” then, you are in the right place.
Here are some of the easy and budget-friendly DIY tricks to unclog your kitchen sink.
1.Combination of boiling water and salt:
Whenever your kitchen sink is clogged, the first thing you should do is to empty the standing/still water in the sink.
Now, pour about half a cup of table salt to the drain. Just so you know, table salt is a great cleansing agent and comes in handy. That is why it is made to sit on the clogged drain for a few minutes.
Now, pour the boiling water in the sink which removes the dirt and garbage.
2.Boiling water only:
If you are in a hurry and you want your sink to be unlogged in minutes, then, go for this technique. You just need to have some boiling water, and here you go! You do not need to rush for a store nor buy any unclogging product.
After removing the standing water, you can pour the boiling water into the sink. If the water still stands in the sink, then, give some time. You may have to repeat this process several times to get the results.
3.Baking soda and vinegar
After clearing the standing water, pour about half a cup of baking soda. Now, pour the same quantity of vinegar to the sink. Soon, the solution begins to bubble and when they subside, quickly place the stopper.
After waiting for 15 minutes or so, you can pour the boiling/hot water and check if the sink is unclogged. If not, repeat as needed.
4.Salt and baking soda:
Try mixing half a cup of salt with a full cup of baking soda and pour the mixture down the drain. Let the mixture sit there of a couple of hours. Now, pour a generous amount of boiling water into the sink.
You may have to repeat this a couple of times if the clogging is deep.
5.Clearing the P-trap:
The basic thing to check for during clogging is the P-Trap. Just so you know, you can find P-trap under the sink beneath the drainpipe. P-trap is usually placed inside a cabinet.
Got it? Yes! Now, you need to spend some quality time cleaning the P-trap. Before you indulge in cleaning, you should place a big container or a bucket below the drain so that it can fetch the water or debris if present.
Now, it is time to unfasten the P-trap and dig out the trash hidden inside it! Now, you just have to replace it and make sure you run the water through.
6.The coat hanger technique:
You just have to straighten the wire coat hanger and start pushing it through the drain. Of course, it cannot reach as far as the Plumber’s snake would do, but it sure is a quick fix.
See if you can push or pull the clog to clear out the clogged space. While using the wire coat hanger, make sure you do not scratch the sink around.
7.Toilet plunger:
If you are using a double sink, you can seal the second side of your sink with the help of a stopper. Now, by creating a sturdy seal around the toilet plunger by pouring enough water till the required height, start plunging hard a couple of times.
You can notice the clog getting cleared due to the suction. That is when you can remove the plunger and clean the drain with some warm water.
Well, these simple hacks should definitely work as a quick fix. But, to save your sink from clogging again, you can just pour some quantity of hot water often. This clears up the accumulated debris, garbage stuck inside unknowingly.
