When you’re carrying out a big DIY project, it can be a massively stressful period of disruption. Not only are you doing physically and mentally exhausting work all day, but then you’re still surrounded by the chaos when you do try and recuperate during the evening. If you’re redecorating a big room like your bedroom or your living room, you might find yourself having to move all your furniture and set up a temporary space in a different room. If you’re redecorating a room like the kitchen or the bathroom, you might even struggle to make a warm meal or take a long shower to clean up after a busy day of DIY. So, what can you do to relax in between DIY days? Here are some ideas for ways to entertain yourself that you can do while the rest of your house is in chaos.
Play a classic game online
While certain rooms might not have electricity, running water or even heating, there should be one amenity that you still have access to in every room. That is of course the internet. Even if you’ve had to unplug your Wi-Fi, you should still be able to access the internet on your mobile phone or even your tablet if it has a SIM card installed. Instead of using it to look where you can buy building materials or to look up tutorials for whatever you’re planning to do next, escape from the DIY chaos by playing a classic game online. For example, you can transport yourself to a bingo hall by playing one of the many online bingo sites you can find if you click here to read some reviews of the best titles available. The great thing about bingo is that while the levels of excitement might be high, the levels of concentration needed to play can be very low – which is exactly what you need when you’ve been doing accurate measuring, cutting or decorating all day.
Plan what you’ll do with your new space
If you’re exhausted from DIY, it can often be hard to motivate yourself to get up again the next day and do even more work on a room. If this is the case, why not spend your evenings finding ways to motivate yourself to keep going with the room. Plan things that you can look forward to doing once the room is done. For example, if you’re completing a bathroom, buy some luxurious bath products to use as soon as it’s done. If it’s a living room, you could even start planning a party for when you want your friends to come and admire your hard work.
Speak to your friends
Completing a DIY project can also be very isolating. It’s highly likely that you won’t want to invite anybody around while your house looks a mess. It’s also highly likely that you’ll not agree to go on nights or meals out with your friends as you’ll want to stay at home and concentrate on getting the project complete. If this is the case, make sure to make extra effort to stay in touch with your friends. It takes only a few minutes to give them a call.
The even better thing about speaking to them on the phone is it doesn’t matter how much paint you have on your face or sawdust in your hair.
