Wooden furniture has been the go-to option in solid furniture forever. And you might be asking, are there any other options? Will you be better off spending your money elsewhere? Furniture comes in lots of different shapes and sizes, and even materials. If you’re stuck as to what material to go with, take a look at our guide to the pros and cons of wooden, metal, marble, and glass furniture.
Wooden furniture
Wooden furniture has been the standard for a long time for a variety of reasons. And when we say “a long time”, we’re talking centuries. That’s the beauty of solid wood furniture: it is timeless. It’ll slot nicely into just about any interior design style.
If you’re looking for discount furniture, wooden furniture is the way to go. Out of all your options, it is the most affordable and most durable. Small scratches can be fixed with something as simple as a walnut or disguised with varnish. As long as you aren’t picking up something that’s more cardboard than solid wood, you’ll have a piece that will last forever, which means you’re not spending money trying to replace it down the line.
Metal furniture
Metal furniture certainly has its place, mainly in the industrial style of interior design. This style embraces simple symbols of manmade structures, so you’re going to see a lot of exposed brick, a lot of exposed beams, and a lot of exposed metal.
Metal dining tables are particularly popular in the industrial style, but it’s not for everyone. The industrial style goes against the idea of a lot of other styles, so it’s quite polarizing.
However, metal tables aren’t about to be easily damaged, and they’re not supposed to be beautiful, so they won’t suffer if they do get damaged.
Ones that are supposed to be beautiful are likely to be found outside, as they can withstand the weather issues, as patio furniture.
Marble furniture
Marble tops are popular in kitchen counters, dining tables and coffee tables. So popular, in fact, that people are faking them at home with DIY lessons. They do offer a beautiful style that is natural, but also extremely stylish and at the time of writing, seriously on trend.
They are also, if they’re real, extremely durable. Too durable. They’re hard to work with, which is why you’re only likely to see them on a countertop or tabletop. All of this combined makes it a less affordable option, but when it looks so good, that makes sense.
Glass furniture
Glass furniture is a risk if you have children or pets at home. It’s beautiful and offers a style that only glass can, but if you are looking at a glass coffee table or dining table, take a look at your surroundings first. A wooden table might take a scratch here and there, metal can take a ding, but glass will either scratch or shatter: no in between.
That being said, it is a very modern look, that would go with the less nature/rustic-focused styles, again, like industrial, minimalist, or art deco.
