Moving 1

Are you going to move into a new house? If so, you may be quite overwhelmed. Since this process involves a lot of arrangements, we have put together a checklist to make it easier for you. The idea is to ensure you get all of the tasks done before the big day. With a moving checklist at your disposal, you can organize things in a much better way. Given below are some major points that you may want to consider. Read on to find out more.

Two months before the final day

Since moving can be quite expensive, make sure you start saving at least two months before you move into your new house. Before you choose a mover, don’t forget to get quotes from several providers. Ideally, you should put together a “moving document” that will have all the records and documents required for the move.

Your next move is to clean your house and collect all the items that you don’t need. You don’t need to carry those items to your new house. Similarly, you should register your kids with your desired school and have their records shifted.

Six weeks before the big day

Six weeks before the final day, you should hire a mover and sign the contract. If possible, you can organize a garage sale for all the items that you don’t need. The rest of the items can be donated.

Next, you should inform your bank and credit card providers, and healthcare professionals that you are going to move. It’s even better to ask them for referrals in the new place. You can also have your dental and medical records transferred.

Moving 2

Thirty days until move in

Four weeks before the big day, you should invite the movers to visit your home and make an assessment of what needs to be moved. This is important to get an accurate quote and make sure the movers bring the required number of movers and trucks.

Now is the time to purchase the required moving supplies, such as plastic bins, moving blankets, markers, tape, and boxes, to name a few. Don’t forget to label things to make it easier for you to pack and unpack all the stuff.

Get in touch with utilities and other service providers to have the services discontinued at your old house. Submit applications for the termination dates for the water, cable, telephone, gas, and electric services as well. Next, decide on the service providers for the new home too.

Fourteen days before the move

Two weeks before the final day, you should make a list of all the essential items, such as medicine, bathroom supplies, and bedding, just to name a few. If you are planning to cook yourself, add some kitchen essentials as well.

Perform deep cleaning of your old house and do the same to your new house as well. Make arrangements for the delivery of your required items at your new house. This may include furniture and appliances.

Seven days before you move in

Now, we are going to talk about the last-minute stuff. When you are just seven days away from the move, make a package of things that you will need to deliver to the new owner of your existing home. This may include utility documents and keys.

If your new house is far away, don’t forget to get rid of things that you can’t get shipped, such as poisons, corrosives, and flammables. Set all your valuables aside for safety, which may include important documents and jewelry.

Moving 3

On the final day

On the final day, make a note of all the furniture and boxes as they are loaded on the truck. There should be no mismatch between the inventory and the mover’s list. And this is quite important for filing an insurance claim after the move.

Give the mover directions to your new house and exchange cell phone numbers. Take several photos of your old home and do a final inspection. Check all of the drawers and closets to ensure nothing important is left behind. And don’t forget to lock all the doors and windows.

That’s it. Once you are in your new home, you should have the boxes and furniture unloaded under your supervision. Now, check that all of the utilities are properly set up. Once everything is in place, you can relax and have fun with your family in your new house. Hopefully, this moving checklist will help you plan your move and get through the process without any trouble. It also helps to hire trustworthy and reliable moving companies like Arrowsmith Moving & Storage to ensure your move is successful and not stressful.
