House Cleaning Guide: The To-Do List for Every Homeowner
The condition of the house contributes to the health and well-being of everyone who lives in it. Thus, houses must be kept sanitary and comfortable by cleaning them regularly. However, every homeowner knows that cleaning an entire house is not an easy task. To ease your burden, we have prepared a house cleaning guide for you.
1. Start from the top
When you are cleaning a specific area in your house, such as the living room, dining room, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom, start from the top and work your way down to the floor. For example, if you are cleaning your bedroom, begin by dusting the ceiling with a dry mop. Do the same on the wall by using a damp mop with a little baking soda. If there are upper shelves, dust them off, too. In this way, dust and dirt will fall on the floor. Once the upper portions are done, you may clean the furniture and lastly sweep and mop the floor.
2. Sweep and clean the floors
When all the things in your room have been dusted off and the dirt on the ceiling and walls have been removed, vacuum the floor or sweep it using a broom. For laminate floors, follow through with a damp mop. For hardwood floors, mix ¼ cup of mild or pH-neutral soap in a bucket of water and use this solution to mop the floor. You may also use a hardwood cleaner. For ceramic tile floors, mix ¼ cup vinegar and a drop of dish soap in a 16-ounce spray bottle filled with warm water. Spray this solution on the ceramic floor one portion at a time, and use a damp microfiber mop to clean it. You may mop the floors of your entire home once a week.
3. Wash the dishes
The dishes must be washed every day. If you are using a dishwasher, make sure to fill it up with plates and utensils before you run it with water. In this way, you are saving water and effort as well. However, do not leave your dirty dishes in the dishwasher overnight or for long periods of time to prevent roaches and other pests from getting into your dishwater.
4. Clean the kitchen countertop
Do not forget to clean the kitchen countertop or your island countertop right after using it to fend off pests.
5. Remove the stink in your garbage disposal
Your garbage disposal may stink in time. Put lemon rinds in your garbage disposal to remove the stink and run it with water.
6. Put away old things
If you think you have too many old items in your house, such as furniture, home decor and accessories, toys, magazines, books, and other things, then it is time to declutter and organize. You may donate or sell items that you no longer use. If you want to dispose of your old furniture and other heavy items, you may call a rubbish removal service such as 1300 Rubbish Removal Sydney to help you get rid of unwanted stuff. Having many things in your house means a lot of cleaning to do. Conversely, less stuff means less cleaning. So, declutter and organize regularly.
7. Remove the dirt right away
Toys scattered on the floor hurt when you step on them. Pick them up and store them in shelves or storage boxes. Train your children to keep their toys away every after playtime. Pick up, sweep, or vacuum any paper, food scraps, or dirt on the floor immediately. Don’t wait for these to pile up, gather dust, and attract pests.
8. Clean the drains
The kitchen sink drain can be nasty. Do not forget to clean it always. Put some dish soap and baking soda; let it sit for a few minutes. Then scrub the area gently with a cleaning toothbrush. Combine 1 cup of baking soda and 3 cups of vinegar, and flush the drain with this solution to remove and prevent clogging. Follow through with warm water.
9. Clean the windows
Window frames and panes must be cleaned as well. Clean the glass panes using newspaper and run it with clean water. Dust off the window frames, too.
10. Degrease the kitchen cabinets and the backsplash
The cabinets near your cooking hob must be degreased with a spray of dish soap and warm water. Do the same with the backsplash. Also, check out the wire cables for grease and wipe them with a clean cloth. This is to prevent any fire that may cause damage.
11. Disinfect the toilet and bathroom
Clean your bathroom by disinfecting the floors, walls, toilet bowl, and lavatory at least once a week. An all-purpose cleaner and toilet bowl cleaner will suffice.
Cleaning your house is a must thing to do to keep you and your family safe. It can make your home look brand new and comfortable to live in.
